Fowl Cay diving - enjoy distinctive feeling
Hidden beneath these warm waters is a world of fascinating coral reefs and sea life. Fowl Cay is just a few miles outside the 112,000-acre Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park that is home to enormous populations of this protected sea life. Conch, octopus, turtles, giant starfish, spiny lobsters, tuna, dolphin, grouper, barracuda, rays and tropical fish are a few of the creatures that share the waters surrounding Fowl Cay. Guests of Fowl Cay will enjoy choosing from a multitude of water sports, all included in property daily rates. Some favorite water sports are as follows: touring on your private boat, sailing, kayaking, water skiing, snorkeling, bonefishing, and shelling. Excellent snorkeling is available off many of the island's beaches. Scuba diving is available at additional cost and usually involves a half or full day trip away from Fowl Cay. The area between North Man-O-War Channel and Scotland Cay has been set aside as the Fowl Cay Preserve and is protected under the Bahamas National Trust. The preserve is bordered on the south by North Man-O-War Channel, on the west by the string of cays and rocks with Fowl Cay to the north and Upper Cay to the south. The ocean side border to the east is the breaking barrier reef. The northern edge is the channel immediately south of Scotland Cay. In calm weather, it is possible to anchor on a sandy bottom in 18 feet of water midway between the cays on the west and the breaking reef. There is no current inside, and the reefs are spectacular. If the surf kicks up, these reefs can be deadly, even for the experienced diver. Particularly during the winter months, when the seas tend to be worse, it is recommended to enlist the services of an experienced dive master.
